A big Thank you goes to Woolton Hill and Highclere Village Market.
We are very grateful as they have picked Speakability as their Charity of the Year during 2024.
We had our usual Christmas meeting in December with a visit from the Choclate Man. We tasted some delicious chocolate and bought lots. Mostly, but not all, for presents!
We sang some carols and chose our favourite festive hats to wear.
We enjoyed a fantastic lunch at The Chequers to celebrate another year. It was lovely to see so many members and their partners enjoying a good lunch. A big thank you to The Chequers for the good food and service. We appreciate all the support they have given us.
On Monday, we celebrated the start of normal meetings from February with some trips out.
The Good Exchange are helping us to raise money to pay for Speech Therapy until April 2022. Our members pay a contribution towards the costs of their therapy sessions, but we still have a shortfall.
We are very excited that the Mayor of Newbury, Cllr Billy Drummond, has launched his year-long One in 100 Fundraising campaign in support of his chosen charity - Speakability.
We have had two get-togethers over the summer at Thatcham Garden Centre. It was the first time in 18 months that we have seen each other in real life. It was lovely to catch up and also to welcome new members, like Siev and Steph, in real life for the first time!
Some of our members and volunteers were delighted to be invited the Newbury Town Council Mayor-Making Ceremony a few weeks ago. Billy Drummond was elected as Mayor, and Gary Norman became Deputy Mayor.
The highlight of our last meeting was seeing Peter's guinea pigs in their hammocks!
Happy New Year!
Now that we are back in lockdown, and there is a more infectious strain of COVID-19 circulating, we need to be even more careful. We all need to follow the rules to keep safe.
Great news - some of us have had our first vaccine ?
