Description

Our Stroke CAFE (C - creative, A - active, F -  fun for E - everyone!) was set up in June 2019. We meet fortnightly, every Wednesday from 10.30 am to 12 noon.

We extend a warm welcome to all stroke survivors and their carers from the local area at our club. There are up to 24 regular members with an organising committee of four volunteers. Over a cuppa and a biscuit (or three!), we share our experiences and stories together and offer mutual support in helping each other to rebuild lives after a stroke. Other activities we enjoy together include seated fun exercise sessions with a qualified, experienced instructor, visiting speakers, creative activities, occasional outings and other events.

We're a friendly lot and every member has the chance to suggest new activities, which will benefit both the physical and mental well-being of the group. We have lived experience and are here to help in any way we can, although we are not qualified experts. Members help each other where and when they can. You’ll be amazed at the difference that can be made by chatting to someone about something that is bothering you - things seem so much more positive!

Why not come along and find out for yourself? You may be surprised how easy it is to make new friends and have fun helping someone else out. We guarantee a very warm welcome. However, to ensure the safety of all our members, and to provide a great service with a safe environment, we ask that you contact us via email to book and guarantee a place at one of our meetings; we are limited to space and with some members having to use motorized wheelchairs, we do need to monitor the capacity of our group sessions.  Please do Not just turn up.

Feeling frightened and alone?

There are times after a stroke when you will feel frightened, angry, useless, frustrated, confused, sad and irritable. There might be other feelings you have - days when you just want to sit and cry. Perhaps you’ll find yourself asking "Why Me"? This is both understandable and normal.

Talk. Talk about your feelings, let out all that frustration, and have a jolly good cry if you feel like it. But make sure you share it and talk about it.
