Our Stroke Support Group continues to expand

The meeting on 23 February reflected the increasing success of the group with a record amount of attendees. Two new members were welcomed and it was noted they had past stroke group experience and were directed to the Chandlers Ford Group for the speech therapy expertise provided.

With a total of 24 attendees, having more support from carers, visitors and volunteers was very important and resulted in a good meeting. Everyone enjoyed the physical exercise session run by Natalie, followed by a game for Stroke Survivors involving matching team sports with the number of players in each team, which kept everyone involved and engaged in animated discussion.

It was great to see the support persons keeping the attendees occupied and connected. Special recognition was given to Helen and Pauline who have completed their formal Stroke Association courses and have been awarded their purple Stroke Association sweaters emblazoned with the title ‘Stroke Volunteer’.

Our Leader Mike outlined some planned activities including ‘Purple Day’ when we will wear something purple and bring food decorated with purple as it represents the fight against stroke. He announced another pending financial contribution from the Inner Wheel Cub of Itchen Valley whose staunch support has been previously welcomed and recognised.

Together we can conquer stroke.
