The Chandlers Ford Stroke Support Group is supported by the Rotary Club of Chandlers Ford and Itchen Valley and welcomes people affected by stroke from Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh and the surrounding areas.
The group provides information about stroke and local services, and also offers support for stroke survivors, their families and friends through a range of social and recreational activities. There's also communication support for people with aphasia and other communication disabilities caused by stroke, as well as offering physical exercises to help with rehabilitation and general wellness.
Meetings take place on the second and last Thursdays of every month from 2pm - 4pm. The first hour is dedicated to speech and language group therapy, run under the direction of professional therapists specialising in stroke rehabilitation, with areas of expertise including Aphasia/Dysphasia (speech difficulties - finding or understanding words) and cognitive-communication difficulties.
After a break for tea/coffee, biscuits and social time, the group then enjoys a 30-40 minute health and wellbeing focus with activities ranging from gentle fitness to Tai Chi, Chair Yoga or meditation. We also organise social activities such as visits to local places of interest.
